Regional Career Specialists provide career pathway development resources and professional development opportunities for educators, guidance and career counselors in every region of South Carolina.

Course Description
This course is designed to train K-14 educators and other professionals who offer career assistance and guidance services in Global Career Development Facilitation (GCDF) by focusing on career development theory and model; student/client diversity; assessment; ethical and legal issues; labor market information and resources; employability skills; and use of technology. Instruction should lead to a better understanding of career development resources and assessments, and an awareness of one’s professional strengths and needed improvements in the area of career guidance. Participants will collaborate with fellow classmates to address challenging situations and explore community resources. This course relates to making the teaching and learning connection by training educators to focus on career development theory, assessment, ethical and legal issues etc. and lead to a better understanding of career development.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use the Internet to identify and use career information resources to assist students with career decision-making. (SOE III, V, VII)
- Use the Internet to access and interpret employment trends and labor market information. (SOE III, V, VII)
- Describe and assess how to apply career development theory to practice through the development of the professional student/client case study portfolios and career development planning in an organization. (SOE II, IV, V, VII)
- Demonstrate competence in the understanding, administration, and interpretation of career development assessments through class activities and discussions. (SOE I, II, IV, V, VII)
- Analyze and synthesize student’s career aspirations through the development of a life-planning portfolio. (SOE II, IV, V, VII)
- Assess participant’s areas of strength or weakness relating to career development by utilizing the appropriate assessments. (SOE II, IV, V, VI, VII)
- Create quality career development programs as evidence by individual projects. (SOE II, III, IV, V, VI, VII)
- Define methods for applying ethical standards of practice to work as Career Development Facilitators by examining case studies and appropriate text. (SOE II, III, IV, V, VII)
Expectations
This course is meant to be relevant to you now and in your future professional life. The class environment will promote professional behavior but have room for fun. The setting will encourage a learning community that supports learner development, reflection, authentic assessment and a hands-on environment. Each learner will be recognized for the valuable personal contributions that he or she brings to the classroom. It is expected that learners will contribute to this environment by fully participating; this includes actively listening, taking notes when necessary, offering a helping hand if appropriate, asking questions, and doing the hands-on assignments.

Tuition
Certification-only - $75.00 (120 total hours)
Graduate-level - $275.00 (120+ total hours for 6 graduate professional development credit hours)
